– Joe Mettle wins artiste of the year awards alongside 2 other top awards
Ghanaian Gospel music act Joe Mettle has won the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the 2017 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
Although many have said the Gospel artiste is the first ever in the genre to win such in a secular dominated Industry, Nii Ayite Hammond, PRO of the Ghana Music Awards has refuted the claim saying Gospel music group, Daughters of Glorious Jesus achieved the feat in 2004.
Joe Mettle beat Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, and other artistes including Stonebwoy, MzVee, EL, Medikal to win the ultimate award of the ceremony, April 9th, 2017.
The Artiste of the Year Award is given to the artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the general public as having the highest audience appeal and popularity in a particular year.
Aside the Artiste of the Year award, Joe Mettle also beat Ogya Mensah, Afriyie, Akwaboah, Sonnie Badu, and Ernest Opoku to win the Best Male Vocalist of the Year award. He also picked up the Gospel Artiste of the Year award.
